(Hamilton, Bermuda, February 9, 2015) –The Argus Group and The Centre on Philanthropy are teaming up for their 6th annual 5K charity fun walk. Argus Walks the Walk with The Centre on Philanthropy 5K is a unique community event that offers participants the opportunity to choose their favourite local registered charity to receive a portion of their entry fee.

The event will take place on Sunday, February 22 at 8:30am, with a warm-up session at 8:15am. The 5K walk begins and finishes in front of the Argus and The Centre on Philanthropy offices, on Wesley Street in Hamilton.

Elaine Butterfield, Executive Director of The Centre on Philanthropy, says: “We are very pleased to partner with the Argus Group on this fun annual charity walk. Participants select a Bermuda registered charity of their choice to receive a donation from their entry fee. As a result, many charities benefit from this event. Last year, 1,100 participants walked, raising a total of $28,940 in support of 118 charities. We welcome everyone to sign up for this popular and impactful event.”

Alison Hill, Chief Executive Officer of the Argus Group, comments: “The event is a great way to promote walking as part of a healthy lifestyle and offers the community a unique way to donate to charity. Last month, Argus launched ‘Thrive’, an innovative nutrition, fitness and wellness programme. One of the goals of this programme is to encourage people to move more. Small changes, like walking on a regular basis, can make a positive impact on our health. We encourage everyone in Bermuda to join us next Sunday for the 5K.”

Online registration is available at www.racedayworld.com or walkers can register in person at The Centre on Philanthropy at Sterling House, 16 Wesley Street, Hamilton. The registration deadline is 4pm on Friday, February 20 and the first 1,200 registrants will receive a free Argus Walks the Walk with The Centre on Philanthropy T-shirt which can be collected from the Argus Building between 10am and 2pm on Saturday, February 21.

The entry fee is $25, of which $20 will be donated to the registered charity selected by the participant. The remaining $5 will support www.VOLUNTEER.bm, The Centre on Philanthropy’s online resource for volunteering. Participants are encouraged to enter as part of a team, which allows groups to walk together for the same charity.

Immediately following the walk, prizes will be awarded to the largest corporate, youth and non-profit teams, as well as to the team with the best coordinated outfits, the best choreography and the best cheer. Teams are advised to dress to impress and bring plenty of spirit.
